Shoplifting suspect threatened store employee in Kailua, police say

A 36-year-old man was arrested in Kailua on Friday after he stole property from a store and threatened a store employee, police said.

The man was booked for investigation of first-degree robbery and illegal possession of a butterfly knife.

Police said he was seen taking the property, then brandished a “dangerous instrument” and threatened the employee, a 30-year-old man, at about 10:10 a.m.

Officers identified the man and arrested him without incident at the intersection of Hoolai and Puniu streets.
