The Hawaii women’s volleyball team picked up its second transfer from Oregon on Tuesday with the signing of Kamehameha graduate Kyra Hanawahine.
The 5-foot-2 defensive specialist saw limited action over two seasons with the Ducks, playing in 25 sets with a combined 12 digs and two aces. She was injured for most of last season, playing in four matches in late August and the Oct. 12 Pac-12 match at Colorado.
Hanawahine will vie for the libero position with returnees Rika Okino and Janelle Gong, adding “depth to a position and skill that Hawaii volleyball is known for,” coach Robyn Ah Mow-Santos said in a statement. “We couldn’t be more excited as a staff that Kyra has decided to transfer home to finish out her collegiate career as a Rainbow Wahine.”
Hanawahine will join former Oregon teammate Jolie Rasmussen, whose transfer was announced last month. The 6-2 outside hitter redshirted last season for the Ducks.
Hanawahine also will be reunited with former Kamehameha teammate Braelyn Akana, one of four incoming freshmen who signed with the Wahine last fall.
