Hawai‘i Convention Center on lockdown after bomb threat

Allison Schaefers

The Hawai‘i Convention Center is on a security lockdown following a bomb threat earlier today.

Teri Orton, general manager of Hawai‘i Convention Center, managed by AEG Facilities, said that the center is working closely with the Honolulu Police Department, who conducted a thorough sweep of the building and found no threats.

Orton said there have been no disruptions to events or services at the center, which did not have any in-house groups today. However, she said that the lockdown means that all center entrances have been locked and contractors or staff must go through security entrances where additional security measures have been implemented to handle scheduled business activity and deliveries.

“The center is taking all precautions to ensure the safety of our employees and guests, and the building will remain on lockdown through tomorrow morning,” Orton said.
