Still feel a chill in the air? National Weather Service forecasters said a cold front is expected to stall and dissipate over the eastern end of the Hawaiian isles today through Saturday.
Radar showed a narrow line of moderate showers along the cold front extending west-southwest from the northern Big Island earlier this morning. The rest of the day should be mostly sunny, with isolated showers, for most isles, becoming cloudy in the evening. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 50s again, with temperatures ranging from 56 to 68 degrees overnight for Oahu.
While trades will return for a brief period tonight, forecasters said they will quickly shift toward the south and weaken Sunday through the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday as another cold front approaches and stalls near the western end of the state.
A high wind advisory, meanwhile, has been issued for Big Island summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, with west winds of 30 to 45 miles per hour, and localized gusts up to 55 miles per hour, through 6 p.m. this evening. Motorists should be aware that winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
