Waianae’s Rachael Ostovich and Makaha’s Yancy Medeiros both made weight for tonight’s UFC fight card in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The event will be the first for the UFC broadcast on ESPN’s platform of networks. The main card is available on ESPN+ and four preliminary bouts will be broadcast on ESPN.
The UFC had a TV deal with Fox that ended at the end of 2018 and signed a five-year deal with ESPN for a reported $1.5 billion that kicks off with tonight’s event.
Ostovich (4-4, 1-1 UFC) made weight at 125.8 pounds for her flyweight bout against Paige VanZant (7-4, 4-3) that will be the second fight shown on ESPN+.
Ostovich is fighting just two months after she was assaulted at a home in Waianae, allegedly by her husband, Arnold Berdon, who was arrested for second-degree assault. Berdon has since pleaded not guilty in the case.
Medeiros (15-5, 6-5) returns to the lightweight division after competing at 170 pounds in his last four fights and weighed in at 155.4 pounds. His fight against Gregor Gillespie (12-0, 5-0) is also on the ESPN+ main card two fights after Ostovich and two bouts before the main event pitting UFC flyweight champion Henry Cejudo against bantamweight titleholder T.J. Dillashaw.
Gillespie is currently ranked No. 15 at 155 pounds by the UFC.
The main card begins at 5 p.m. on ESPN+, which is a subscription service available online only via ESPN.
