Letter: People will forget to turn lights off

Regarding the recent proposal that drivers put on their hazard lights when stopping for a pedestrian crossing multiple lanes, there are a multitude of reasons against this.

Just as many people forget to turn their lights off when exiting the Pali tunnel, many people who would actually turn their hazard lights on will forget to turn their hazard lights off immediately and will be driving around with hazard lights on.

A much simpler solution would be to paint all the crosswalks red, as Ala Moana Center has done in and around the center. Red means stop.

Of course, another solution would be to somehow remind the pedestrians to look to the left when stepping off the curb. And to program the walk signals so they are more clear.
