We don’t need more signs, flashing lights and the recent appendages placed in the middle of the crosswalks in Nuuanu pointing out the crosswalks. They do nothing to make us aware of pedestrians. They just make us aware of crosswalks. No one cares: People continue to speed through the crosswalks and even knock down the posts.
What we need, and what works, are flashing lights at crosswalks informing us when pedestrians are crossing the street. It’s been proven to work.
