The Star-Advertiser and hotel industry repeatedly criticize short-term rental operators for not paying their share of transient occupancy taxes, but they ignore the facts.
If I remember correctly, the hotels and their special-interest groups also opposed efforts by platforms like Airbnb to collect taxes on behalf of hosts. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
It’s another indication that this fight against vacation rentals is not about helping our communities, but rather desperate attempts to protect their bottom line.
