A celebration of life for nightlife columnist and DJ Christa Wittmier will be held Feb. 16 at The Republik, one of her favorite entertainment venues.
Wittmier, who was known as Super CW, died of breast cancer Jan. 3 at age 43. Befitting her buoyant personality, Wittmier’s friends and colleagues are planning a lively Super CW Life Celebration, with Flash Hansen, Maleko McDonnell and Olena Heu serving as hosts. Doors open at 5 p.m.; a sneak peak of her new documentary, “The Adventures of Super CW,” will screen at 6 p.m., featuring an introduction by producer and director Gerard Elmore.
The celebration will include performances by Girl Gang DJs (Gnaraly, Jem, Tittahbyte and Yoozilla) and Johnny Helm, and aerial burlesque by Jesa Simpkins and the Volary Vixens. Jasper Wong of Pow! Wow! Hawaii will preside over live art and an auction. Wittmier was a co-founder of the annual festival that draws well-known street artists from around the world to create murals throughout Kakaako.
Also on the auction block will be Wittmier’s BMW automobile, hand-painted by one of Pow! Wow!’s featured artists, Aaron De La Cruz.
Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 on the day of the event, with all of the net proceeds going to Wittmier’s family and the Aloha Cancer Project. Purchase tickets online at jointherepublik.com and eventbrite.com, and at The Republik box office, 1349 Kapiolani Blvd., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
