KAILUA-KONA >> An 18-year-old Big Island man convicted in the 2016 rape of a woman will spend at least 11 years in prison.

The Hawaii Paroling Authority set the term limit last month for Tyron Sigrah, who pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault, second-degree assault, kidnapping and second-degree robbery, West Hawaii Today reported.

Sigrah and Samuel Latrik, 19, were convicted of holding the woman against her will and beating and raping her at the Old Kona Airport Park in September 2016. The attack stopped after a bystander chased the teens off.

Sigrah, who was 15 at the time of the attack, was sentenced in September to up to 20 years in prison.

Latrik is scheduled to be sentenced in 3rd Circuit Court this week. He pleaded guilty in November to charges that included first-degree sexual assault, kidnapping and second-degree assault.

The victim told the newspaper last week that she thought Sigrah’s prison term would be closer to the maximum, but she’s happy he’s behind bars.

“I’m thankful for the justice,” she said.

The Associated Press does not typically name alleged victims of sexual assault.

The victim said she plans to be at Latrik’s sentencing hearing and when the Hawaii Paroling Authority sets his minimum prison term.

“They’re dangerous people,” she said.

Sigrah will be eligible for parole after the 11-year term.
