Australia’s Jack Robinson won the Volcom Pipe Pro on Tuesday in 6- to 8-foot surf at Banzai Pipeline. Robinson posted a 14.87 total.
Oahu’s Barron Mamiya posted a perfect 10 en route to his second-place finish, scoring 12.67. The 19-year-old won the Banzai Bowl “Life in the Bowl” award for best barrel.
Hawaii’s Joshua Moniz, the defending event champion, fell in the quarterfinals to Reef Heazlewood of Australia.
Vulcans women’s golf places 11th
The Hawaii Hilo women’s golf team finished 11th in the 18-team PLNU Sea Lions Invite on Tuesday in San Diego.
The tournament was shortened from 36 holes to 18 due to rain.
Carli Shimokihara led the Vulcans with an 81, while teammate Andi Igawa followed with an 82.
UH Hilo scored 339, six shots back of Chico State. Cal State San Marcos won the Invite with a team score of 303.
Next up for UH Hilo is the St. Edwards Invitational, Feb. 18-19, in Austin, Texas.
