Being both a driver and a pedestrian on a daily basis, I have seen the safety issue from both sides.
While most drivers that I have encountered while crossing streets are very alert and usually yield to pedestrians, there are the few who aren’t.
The real problem that I see on a daily basis is the attitude of the pedestrians, who feel that because the walk light is on they don’t have to look. They just step into the roadway. They also assume that because the car in the near lane stopped, so will all the other cars in the other lanes. They walk without looking.
Pedestrians, please look before you step into traffic and stay alert — you could save everyone from having a very bad day.
And to the guy on the skateboard, remember that when I looked you were still out of sight around the corner and the only reason that you nearly got hit was the speed at which you were traveling.
