The state Department of Transportation will begin work Monday to replace three pedestrian bridges that connect the parking garage to airline ticket lobbies in Terminal 2 at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
First up is the Ewa bridge, which will be closed as well as elevators at both ends of the bridge. Pedestrian access to and from the Terminal 2 parking structure and lobbies will be available at the Central and Diamond Head bridges and street-level crosswalks. Detour signs will be posted to direct people to alternate routes.
Vehicle access on the first-level inner and outer roadways around the bridge construction work will be reduced by one lane during the day, according to a DOT news release. Overnight from 8:30 p.m. to 5 a.m., the outer roadway will be reduced by two lanes. The international arrivals on-demand taxi zone will be reduced to accommodate the construction. Rental car and pre-arranged ground transportation pickup zones will not be impacted during this phase of the construction, DOT said.
The three-bridge replacement project is expected to be completed in two years. Nan Inc. was awarded a $23 million contract for the job.
