Local Moco: Easy Malt Vinegar Chicken Wings

Good cooks abound in the community, and a few gems generously share their talents with those less experienced in the kitchen.

Shirley Murakami of Aiea is one. Murakami wrote that she’s been holding a casual cooking class in her own kitchen for a small group of young women for about 10 years. At the sessions, where the women learn basic preparation, they cook an appetizer, vegetable dish, soup or salad, main dish and dessert.

Alas, at age 76, Murakami has decided it’s time to call it a day. But first, she wrote in to share an easy chicken wing recipe that she taught to her young friends. She calls it “easy and tasty.”

EASY MALT VINEGAR CHICKEN WINGS

• 2 pounds chicken wings
• Garlic salt, to taste
• 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
• 1/2 cup London Pub Malt Vinegar (sold at Walmart)

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking dish with parchment.

Lightly salt wings with garlic salt. Place on parchment in baking dish. Bake 45 minutes, until nicely browned.

Meanwhile, in small pan, heat brown sugar in vinegar to dissolve sugar. Cool.

Pour cooled sauce over cooked wings and toss to coat. Enjoy. Serves 2 to 3.
