First, the vacation-rental community supports and encourages reasonable regulation. We want to work with the City Council and community to foster and maintain a healthy tourism economy.
Additionally, vacation rentals are important to Oahu’s economy and community. Vacation rentals account for $1.2 billion in revenue and 7,000 jobs. This growing industry benefits homeowners, small businesses and residents alike.
The industry is committed to being a good community partner. We must work together to shape a balanced policy and practices that create stronger communities.
If highly restrictive measures like Bill 89 pass, Oahu risks losing the economic benefits that vacation rentals bring the local community, including much-needed income for homeowners, jobs for residents, increased foot traffic to local businesses and additional tax revenue.
