The Hawaii Pacific softball team split a doubleheader with Pacific University (Ore.) on Sunday at Sand Island Field.
In the second game, Tiana Cantero-Kawelo batted 2-for-3 and scored two runs in HPU’s 5-4 victory.
The Sharks benefited from three errors and scored three unearned runs.
In the first game, Jordan Curry pitched a complete game and HPU’s rally fell short in a 3-2 loss.
HPU trailed 3-0 after four innings and scored runs in the sixth and seventh.
The Sharks moved to 7-8, while the Boxers went to 6-5.
On Saturday, HPU split with Pacific at Moanalua High School. The Sharks won the first game 9-5 and dropped the second 6-2.
Chaminade splits with British Columbia
Hailey Matsumura scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a fielding error as the Chaminade softball team beat British Columbia 3-2 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
Ashlyn Yagin’s ground ball with one out and runners at the corners was booted by the Thunderbirds’ third baseman.
Chaminade’s Madelyn Stockslager pitched a four-hitter with no walks and seven strikeouts, and both runs she allowed were unearned.
In the second game, Kayla Henmi and Yagin each scored two runs, but the Silverswords fell short, 7-6.
British Columbia scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-2 lead, and Chaminade came back to score four in the bottom half.
The Silverswords went to 2-3, while the Thunderbirds went to 1-1.
Sharks, Vulcans win 1 game apiece
The Hawaii Pacific baseball team won a slugfest and Hawaii Hilo came back to win a close game Sunday at Hans L’Orange Park.
In the first game, Jordan Mopas, Jared Bannister and Sean Coffey each drove in three runs and Tanner Tokunaga scored four times in the Sharks’ 20-10 victory.
Conlan Myers allowed two runs — none earned — in 42⁄3 innings of relief for the victory.
Marcus Calamese homered and drove in three runs for the Vulcans.
HPU led 10-2 after three innings, Hilo got within 12-10 after six and HPU scored the final eight runs.
In the second game, John Bicos singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Vulcans won 3-2 in the scheduled seven-inning game.
Hilo’s Travis Burleson and John Kea combined on a five-hitter.
The Sharks went to 11-3, while the Vulcans moved to 3-6.
UH women’s sailors place fourth
The University of Hawaii women’s sailing team placed fourth at the Bryson Intersectional over the weekend off Redwood City, Calif.
Host Stanford won the seven-team regatta with 114 points. Hawaii finished with 276.
A total of 36 races were completed in the A and B divisions.
Annika Garrett, Megan Lucas and Megan Zamzow competed for the Rainbow Wahine in the A division, while Hayden Lahr, Paige Sullivan and Jemma Baird sailed in the B division.
