Daniel Tremblay was playing his lap steel guitar under a banyan tree at Queen's Surf Beach in Waikiki, Monday, February 11, 2019, when New Jersey visitor (she was born here) Patti Sami stopped to give a donation. Tremblay gave Sami a quick lesson in the instrument and reading music using Tabulature and had her playing "Beyond the Reef" in a few moments. Tremblay says it is his way to renew interest in the instrument, which has its roots in Hawaii, and takes donations given to him on the beach to go toward training youth in the art of Hawaiian Steel Guitar at HIMELE - Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences.
