Fishing village wants more DLNR enforcement on aquarium trade

    The yellow tang is the most commonly caught aquarium fish in Hawaii. Milolii villagers have vastly different views on whether to end Hawaii's aquarium trade.

    A sign that is visible from the ocean marks the north end of a four-mile stretch along the coast at Milolii that has been off-limits to aquarium collecting since 1999. A similar sign marks the south end.

For the entire time they have lived on the coast, they have seen a state Department of Land and Natural Resources boat in the area only once. DLNR oversees the aquarium trade. Read more
