4 injured in 3-vehicle crash near Four Seasons resort in Kona

Four people were injured Tuesday in a three-vehicle accident near the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai in Kona, according to police and firefighters.

A truck with a trailer was traveling south on Queen Kaahumanu Highway at around 9 a.m. when a Jeep reportedly pulled out in front of it from Kaupulehu Drive, firefighters said. The driver of the truck swerved but ended up hitting the Jeep. The impact caused the truck to fishtail and sent the trailer spinning 180 degrees. The truck and trailer then hit a sport utility vehicle before flipping onto its side, firefighters said.

The driver of the Jeep was a 25-year-old man from Washington state, according to officials. Firefighters said he was medivaced to Kona Community Hospital. A 24-year-old female passenger in the Jeep was taken by ambulance to North Hawaii Community Hospital, officials said. The 54-year-old driver of the truck and the 62-year-old driver of the SUV were also taken by ambulance to the hospital.
