A high-surf advisory is in effect for the north- and west-facing shores of Oahu, Kauai, Molokai and Niihau as well as the north-facing shores of Maui.

High surf will continue along the north and west shores today, then lower tonight through Monday when the north-northwest swell eases.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu forecasts 12 to 16 feet surf along the north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau, and north shores of Oahu, Maui and Molokai. Forecasters predict 8 to 12 feet surf along the west-facing shores of Oahu and Molokai.

The advisory expires 6 p.m. today but may be extended if high surf conditions continue.

Beachgoers should expect moderate, strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents that make swimming difficult and dangerous. Weather officials said beachgoers should exercise caution and heed all advice given by Ocean Safety officials.
