I understand that many say, “It won’t happen in my lifetime.” But what if the ship doesn’t come in? What if a dock strike, truck strike, you name it strike, or war happens; the question is, “Can Hawaii feed itself?”
If “no,” then we will have anarchy. If “yes,” then we may have aloha. It could be a very fine line (“Bill to put solar farms on prime ag land elicits stiff opposition,” Star-Advertiser, March 25).
Perhaps we should require all agricultural land to be cultivated by those who can or want to learn.
And don’t charge people for access, because it won’t work. Make productivity the criteria. And every house should have 500 gallons of catchment now. It’s so easy. Because stuff happens.
