Police have opened a first-degree robbery investigation after a male suspect allegedly attempted to carjack a 35-year-old woman in Kahala Monday.

Police said the woman was pumping gas into her vehicle at a gas station on Waialae Avenue at about 4 p.m. when the suspect entered her vehicle and attempted to steal it.

The perpetrator then allegedly brandished an unspecified dangerous instrument and threatened her with it.

Police said the suspect fled without taking the woman’s vehicle. No injuries were reported.

He fled in a stolen silver Toyota Corolla driven by a second suspect.

The Toyota that was reported stolen by a rental car company was recovered in the Kalihi area at about 11:45 p.m.

The suspect who allegedly attempted to carjack the woman was described as being in his 20s with a skinny build. He was wearing a white T-shirt, khaki shorts and a black Chicago Bulls cap at the time.

There are no arrests at this time.

Correction: A previous version incorrectly stated the attempted carjacking occurred in Kaimuki.
