What’s better than ice cream? Free ice cream!

Enjoy a complimentary scoop of your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavor — whether it’s the classic Cherry Garcia or iconic Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough — during Free Cone Day, Tuesday at Ben & Jerry’s “scoop shops” at Pearlridge Center and Ward Village.

“Free Cone Day is our way of thanking our fans for being so supportive and generally awesome,” the Vermont-based company’s spokeswoman Laura Peterson said via email. “Everything we do is possible because of them. We try to love our fans as much as they love us.”

The annual event started in 1979, when co-founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield celebrated the one-year anniversary of their Burlington, Vt., shop and threw a party for their customers. This year, Ben & Jerry’s expects to serve more than a million scoops of ice cream on Free Cone Day at its shops worldwide.

“Free Cone Day is an excellent day to enjoy a favorite, or try something completely new,” Peterson said. “There is no limit to the number of times you can get back in line, so families can enjoy an affordable and delicious day out.”
