Big Isle’s Shipman Industrial Park reopens after propane leak

Shipman Industrial Park in Keaau has reopened after a propane tank leak was stopped and the situation stabilized, according to Hawaii Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Darwin Okinaka.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency said businesses in the area are no longer being advised to shelter in place.

Okinaka said HFD and HCCDA are trying to determine the exact location of the leak.

Firefighters and police closed off the industrial park before noon today.

A fire crew with the Hazardous Materials unit is still at the scene to monitor air quality.
