‘Iolani’s Kyung Eun Lee and Waiakea’s Lacey Uchida, both 15, received invitations to play in the Lotte Championship’s Sunday qualifier this weekend. South Korea’s Kum Kang Park was also invited.
Lee won the AJGA Folds of Honor tournament last summer and was fourth at the Big “I” National Championship. She also qualified for Junior Worlds and Girls Junior America’s Cup.
Uchida also represented Hawaii at America’s Cup and qualified for the U.S. Girls Junior national championship last summer. She received the Hawaii’s State Junior Golf Association’s Dr. Ho Spirit of the Game award in 2016.
Park won the Avondale Amateur earlier this year in Australia and was second at the New Zealand Amateur.
Players can enter the qualifier as late as this afternoon. Hawaii’s Britney Yada, Brittany Fan, Alice Kim, Kacie Komoto, Mari Chun and Cyd Okino have entered.
The 18-hole qualifier starts at 8 a.m., with the top two players earning a spot in the Lotte.
’Bows to play in televised event
Golf Channel will televise next week’s Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. The University of Hawaii will play in the tournament, which runs Monday-Wednesday.
All three rounds are scheduled to be shown live, from 1-4 p.m.
This is the only men’s regular-season stroke-play event to be broadcast live on national TV. Hawaii is competing against California, Colorado State, Oregon, Pepperdine, host San Jose State, San Diego State, Stanford, UTEP, USC, UC Irvine and Washington.
The Rainbows come home to host the Big West Championships, April 29-30, at Wailua Municipal on Kauai.
