Honolulu police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the April 3 kidnapping and robbery of a 22-year-old woman along Kalanianaole Highway.

Police initially arrested the suspect, who they said has no local address, at 2:05 p.m. Thursday at or near Windward Mall on suspicion of fraudulent use of a credit card and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.

After further investigation, police also arrested him on suspicion of kidnapping, three counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of third-degree sexual assault, first-degree robbery, auto theft and fourth-degree theft involving the April 3 case.

Charges are pending.

Police said the woman was driving her gray 2017 Honda Civic on the highway at about 7:40 p.m. on April 3 when she struck an object. She stopped to check her car when an unknown man allegedly forced her back into her vehicle.

Police said the woman was sexually assaulted and robbed by the assailant who brandished an unspecified dangerous instrument.

She was released with her car sometime after midnight in Windward Oahu. Police said she was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Sgt. Chris Kim, coordinator of CrimeStoppers Honolulu, said police linked the suspect to the kidnapping case after he allegedly used a credit or debit card belonging to the victim.

Anyone with information on the kidnapping and robbery is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
