Our hearts and aloha go out to the families and friends of Maria Davis and the 5-year-old boy, the two people who lost their lives of this tragic accident (“Mid-Pacific fires 2 after deadly kayak accident during spring break trip,” Star-Advertiser, April 9). If we could only turn the clock back and prevent this accident that happened, it would be a miracle, but we just can’t.
As with others who saw this on the news, I asked why a child so young and innocent died. We need to look very carefully at how we can prevent an accident like this from happening again.
When planning a family outing with children, adults should make every effort to ensure that safety precautions are taken on land and on sea. Who would have thought that on a beautiful and sunny day, lives would be lost? I’m sure that Mrs. Davis, who wanted to make the children happy with a memorable day, never thought it would turn out to be a tragedy.
My deepest aloha and condolences to the Davis and Chiu families.
