When it comes to dietary choices, I think we all know the right things to eat. We may even sit down at a restaurant with good intentions, but they fade away when we’re asked to choose between 6 ounces of steak or a stack of kale.
Pieology is making it a little easier to go meatless, with the addition of three new vegan, non-GMO and cholesterol-free Premium Plant Proteins that approximate spicy Italian sausage, beef meatballs and diced chicken.
When building a pizza to order, find these ingredients grouped with the vegetable offerings.
The most meatlike are the spicy Italian sausage rounds, made with soy protein, wheat gluten, potato starch and sausage spices that help fool the taste buds into thinking they’re the real thing. The illusion is complete when combined with other typical pizza ingredients, such as tomato sauce, cheese (vegan option available), black olives and mushrooms.
Least likely to fool a meat eater is the soy-protein chicken substitute that was a little too bouncy in texture.
Even so, the new additions make an easy and painless way to cut back on meat.
Pieology shops are in the Aina Haina Shopping Center, Hale Mahana at University and King streets, 151 Hekili St. in Kailua, and Pearlridge Center.
