I remember often walking in the theater district in New York years ago while attending school in lower Manhattan. I occasionally saw big-shot Broadway stars, and every one of them completely ignored me even if I only wanted to say hello.
This past week while shopping at Costco, I saw this beautiful lady shopping and had to ask if she was Loretta Ables Sayre. To my surprise, she said “Yes, I am,” and we started a long conversation about how much I have enjoyed seeing her in all the shows at Diamond Head Theatre, etc. She was sensational in a recent production of “Hello, Dolly!”
She talked about being on Broadway in New York and the theater in London and how lucky she was to be in show business doing something that she loved. I told her we were the lucky ones because she was our talented Loretta and her kindness to a complete stranger will never be forgotten.
Lucky we live Hawaii.
