Tanner Bibee allowed eight hits in 8 2/3 innings to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 5-2 baseball victory over Hawaii tonight at Les Murakami Stadium.
Bibee, who has a 2.96 earned-run average in seven nonconference starts, relinquished nine runs in 13 innings in two previous Big West games. But in his longest outing of the season, Bibee struck out seven and walked none on Thursday.
Pinch hitter Logan Pouelsen’s two-out RBI single closed the Rainbow Warriors to 5-2 in the ninth. When Tyler Best followed with a single up the middle, that brought Scotty Scott to the plate as the potential tying run. Michael Weisberg replaced Bibee and induced Scott to fly out to center to end the game.
The Titans scored single runs in the first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to claim the opener of this three-game series.
Aaron Davenport, who lasted 10 batters in his previous start, was pulled after issuing a single to open the CSUF third.
The Rainbow Warriors fell to 14-20 overall and 4-6 in the Big West.
