Hawaii island motorcyclist dies in head-on crash

One man is dead and another four people were injured when a motorcycle crashed head on with a Toyota 4Runner in Kailua-Kona on Saturday.

Hawaii County firefighters found the dead motorcyclist about 200 feet below the intersection of Highways 180 and 190 when they responded to the scene at 5:42 p.m.

Fire officials said the motorcyclist was trying to overtake a vehicle on a blind turn when he hit the 4Runner. They cited excessive speed as a factor in the collision.

The driver and three passengers in the 4Runner were taken to Kona Hospital for treatment.
