Man, 24, arrested at Maunalua Bay for allegedly stealing catamaran

Honolulu police arrested a 24-year-old man at Maunalua Bay after after he allegedly stole a 30-foot catamaran.

Five units from the Honolulu Fire Department responded with 15 firefighters to a boater in distress at about 4:35 a.m. Wednesday. HFD Capt. Scot Seguirant said the vessel was drifting toward rocks and a man on board could not get the engine started.

Firefighters towed the boat to shallow waters.

Police said it was later discovered the boat had been stolen. The suspect was arrested at the bay on suspicion of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and first-degree theft.
