California girl injured bodyboarding on Maui

A 10-year-old California visitor was injured today while bodyboarding on Maui’s west side.

Maui Fire Department’s spokesman Ryan Yatsushiro said that the girl was thrown from a wave in the one- to two-foot shore break.

He said a witness described it as going “over the falls.”

Ocean Safety officers helped the victim, taking precautionary measures for possible spinal injury.

She was taken by medics to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition for further assessment and treatment.
