Letter: Waikiki park needs to keep out homeless

Regarding a new park possibly being built in Waikiki (“Committee to vet agreement for park plans,” Star-Advertiser, April 22): While most dreamers will be conjuring up thoughts of wide-open green grass, picnic tables, cute couples walking their dogs and playing with their children, I see something a little more realistic.

I see the uncontrolled homeless population taking over, just like they have at every other park in Honolulu.

Do you really think people will be able to enjoy that park just because it’s new?

C’mon, man! I can smell the urine in the air. I can see the shabby tents lined up. And I can hear the grumbling that’s going to follow.

Before that park is built, I sure hope somebody has the plans in place to protect it. Better yet, how about coming up with a plan to clean up our current parks? Or else it’s same smell, different park.
