National Military Appreciation Month (NMAM) is celebrated across the nation as citizens unite to salute present and past members of the U.S. Armed Forces. The annual observation began in 1999, thanks to the efforts of then U.S. Sen. John McCain, who introduced legislation to designate May as the month for Americans to demonstrate appreciation for service members.
