A screenshot of surveillance camera video shows the white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck believed to have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run late Thursday.

A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed late Thursday in a hit-and-run in Waikiki.

Positive identification of the victim is pending.

The collision occurred about 10:30 p.m. on Kalakaua Avenue fronting the Waikiki Aquarium.

Police said a vehicle, described by witnesses as a white late-model Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, was traveling eastbound on Kalakaua Avenue when it struck a man who was crossing the street.

The pickup truck fled the scene. A surveillance video from a nearby building captured images of a truck that fit witnesses’ description of the vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services responded and treated the pedestrian before taking him in critical condition to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said he was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Speed does not appear to be factor. It is unknown at this time whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

This is the year’s 21st traffic-related fatality on Oahu compared with 19 at the same time last year.

CrimeStoppers and police are seeking the public’s help in locating the driver of the vehicle. Anyone with information is urged to call the Honolulu Police Department’s Traffic Division at 723-3413 or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
