I am tired of Mayor Kirk Caldwell and the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation board claiming that they know citizens want rail to end at Ala Moana.
“HART knows that … the public at large … support(s) the completion of the rail system to Ala Moana,” HART executive director Andrew Robbins said in his April 14 commentary (“HART committed to finish 20-mile rail,” Star-Advertiser, Island Voices).
In 2005, rail was approved by only 51% of voters. Support has fallen since.
Consider all this: Three negative rail audits, three federal subpoenas, HART board member John Henry Felix calling for a timeout to re-think rail beyond Middle Street, gross fiscal incompetence, the harassment of a HART whistleblower. and University of Hawaii climate scientists saying parts of the rail route past Middle Street could be under water. All just a few good reasons to stop rail at Middle Street.
