Darrell Dorch did not appear in the courtroom because he was reportedly being uncooperative.

A 35-year-old Japanese visitor allegedly lured a 26-year-old woman to her hotel room in Waikiki where the visitor’s husband punched her repeatedly and sexually assaulted her multiple times, according to court documents.

Nagisa Dorch made her initial court appearance at Honolulu District Court Monday after prosecutors charged her and her husband, Darrell Dorch, 46, with multiple counts of sexual assault involving the victim who police described as a Japanese national.

Nagisa Dorch stood before Judge Melanie May with tears rolling down her face on charges of first-degree sexual assault and two counts of second-degree sexual assault.

Her aggregate bail is set at $300,000.

Attorney Walter Rodby who is representing Nagisa Dorch described the bail amount as excessive.

“Mrs. Dorch has never been in trouble before,” Rodby said during the hearing, adding she resides in Japan with her father and son.

May denied a request to reduce bail to $50,000 because of the seriousness of the allegations and potential flight risk as well as the couple’s potential danger to the community.

Nagisa Dorch’s husband, Darrell Dorch, was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual assault, one count of kidnapping and one count of attempted first-degree sexual assault. His aggregate bail is set at $500,000.

Deputy Public Defender Evan Tokunaga made a special appearance on behalf of Darrell Dorch. Though he was in custody in the building, he did not appear in the courtroom because he was reportedly being uncooperative.

The sex assaults occurred at about 1 p.m on May 1 at a hotel room of the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort at 2335 Kalakaua Avenue.

The victim told police she met Nagisa Dorch at the beach. At some point, she invited the victim to hang out at the hotel swimming pool and have a few alcoholic beverages, according to court documents released Monday.

The Dorchs and the woman hung out at the pool for a while when Dorch’s wife asked the victim to come up to her room to help her pick out a bathing suit.

Soon after the two women entered the room and were selecting bathing suits, Nagisa’s husband entered the room and began to get intimate with his wife which made the victim uncomfortable.

The victim attempted to leave when Darrell Dorch allegedly pulled her by her hair and punched her about 10 times, court documents said.

Police said he then sexually assaulted her. When the victim tried to leave, she alleged he physically assaulted her.

Police said Nagisa Dorch translated her husband’s sexual demands to the victim and that she kissed the victim during the assault.

The sexual assault lasted for several hours.

Police said Nagisa Dorch helped the victim escape after Dorch’s husband stepped into the balcony when Nagisa’s son knocked on the room door at about 7:30 p.m. The victim ran to her hotel and reported the assaults to police.

Police responded and arrested Nagisa and Darrell Dorch at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort shortly after midnight on May 2 after the victim positively identified them.
