Former University of Hawaii basketball player Jaaron Stallworth was reported dead today, stunning members of the program who were briefly associated with the Northern California native in 2017.

UH was among the first to offer condolences to his family.

“We lost a member of our ‘ohana. Sending our aloha, thoughts, and prayers to the Stallworth family during this difficult time. Rest in peace Jaaron,” the UH basketball Twitter account sent out.

The Sacramento Bee’s Joe Davidson reported on Twitter that Stallworth had “some sort of train mishap” and expressed fondness for the former two-sport star of Cosumnes Oaks High School.

Stallworth transferred from Yuba (Calif.) College to UH for the 2017-18 season. He was expected to compete for minutes at point guard, but a broken leg injury from his time at Yuba slowed his progress, and he never played an official minute before quitting the team a few games into the season.
