Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve was closed to the public on Monday because of a problem with the sewage pump for its restrooms.

The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve will reopen this morning following repairs to a sewage pump, city officials announced.

The beach, upper viewing area, parking lots, and education center, were closed on Monday due to a problem with the sewage pump serving all of the restroom facilities within the Nature Preserve. Hanauma Bay is normally closed on Tuesdays, and remained closed on Wednesday as repairs got underway.

At about 2 p.m. Wednesday, city parks and recreation officials announced repairs had been completed.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of everyone while this area was closed,” parks and recreation officials said in a statement.
