Hawaii now has more company in the mandate for utilities to generate 100 percent of their electricity sales from renewable resources by 2045. On Tuesday, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee signed a measure that makes his state the fourth to require carbon-free electricity by the same year. Previously, California and New Mexico followed Hawaii’s lead.
In 2015, Gov. David Ige threw down the deadline for the most petroleum-dependent state in the nation. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, at least a half dozen other states are considering similar clean-energy legislation.
Students start a credit union
Kudos to Island Pacific Academy students who, with an assist from a HawaiiUSA FCU professional, run their own credit union at the private school.
Most Americans lack financial literacy and typically let money run through their fingers. The National Capability Study conducted by FINRA Foundation showed two-thirds of some 27,000 Americans surveyed failed a financial literacy test.
So let’s all celebrate the accomplishments of the students. More to the point, let’s all follow their lead.
