Hawaii’s Moore advances, top surfers fall at Bali surf event

Hawaii’s Carissa Moore posted the second-highest score of the day and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Corona Bali Protected today in Keramas, Bali in Indonesia.

Moore, a three-time WSL champion, defeated Paige Hareb of New Zealand 12.56-11.57 in the round of 16 and will face Brisa Hennessy in the quarterfinals.

Moore is the lone Hawaii surfer left in the women’s competition. Coco Ho lost to Sally Fitzgibbons 12.03-9.77 and World No. 2 Malia Manuel was eliminated by Courtney Conlogue 10.40-7.83 in the round of 16.

World No. 1 Caroline Marks was eliminated in the round of 16 as was defending event winner Lakey Peterson.

Marks was knocked out by Brazilian Silvana Lima, who at 34 is the oldest surfer on the tour. Peterson was eliminated by Australia’s Bronte Macaulay.
