I am appalled that those conducting illegal vacation rental activity have the gall to broadcast their activity on the front page of the newspaper (“Council balks at vacation rentals decision,” Star-Advertiser, May 9). What does that say about feeling entitled to conduct this activity? They have no problem whatsoever with what they are doing.
And why is that? No enforcement by the city, and the City Council has dragged its feet for far too long on this issue. What is our priority? Housing and quality of life for our residents, or tourists? I have seen house after house disappear in our neighborhood and become a rental for tourists. Plenty of B&B rentals, too.
It’s sad. It drives the price of housing for our families up, whether you own or rent. Now these same scofflaws want to have their illegal activity “grandfathered” in. Seriously? The City Council must do something and quit kicking the can down the road.
