Police seeking witnesses in critical motorcycle-car crash on Big Isle

A 38-year-old Waikoloa man sustained critical injuries in a two-vehicle crash in South Kohala Thursday.

Police said a white 2018 Nissan Altima operated by a 61-year-old California man was making a left turn from Waikoloa Road onto Uluwehi Street at approximately 5:15 p.m. when he collided with a blue 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by the Waikoloa man.

The motorcyclist was taken in critical condition to the North Hawaii Community Hospital and medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu.

Police said the Nissan driver and his 60-year-old female passenger were not injured.

Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.

The Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit has launched a negligent injury investigation and is seeking witnesses.

Anyone with information on the collision may call officer Jason Foxworthy at 326-4646 or CrimeStoppers at 961-8300.
