Alabama, one of the poorest states in the nation, is in the headlines for banning abortions.
The state has 15 counties with a poverty rate higher than 25%. More than a quarter million children live below the poverty line, and Republican Gov. Kay Ivey apparently could not care less.
But she wants to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision and make abortion illegal nationwide.
This backwards step is a slap in the face to all women. To take away a woman’s right to choose in an overpopulated world is insane.
No one seems to care about the unwanted children once they are born.
Food insecurity rates in many states are close to 20%. There are 44 million Americans without health insurance, and 38 million with inadequate health insurance.
Children should be a result of family planning. All women must have the right to decide whether to have children.
