Kama‘aina Kids’ defense of its land-use lease is baloney (“Dispute cresting over Kama‘aina Kids’ commercial use of Kaneohe Bay,” Star-Advertiser, May 29).
I belong to a nonprofit club with beachfront residential property in Laie. We could rent it out for catered private parties and use the proceeds for property upkeep. But that would be commercial use in a residential-zoned district.
It’s not just what you do with the money. It’s what permitted use you have of the land. Kama‘aina Kids can give rides to kids, but not to tourists via tickets sold by Holokai Kayak and Snorkel Adventures.
