Richard Borreca’s column was an accurate and succinct observation of the decrepit condition of an airport that welcomes more than 10 million visitors a year (“Hawaii needs and deserves modern functioning airport in Honolulu hub,” Star-Advertiser, On Politics, June 16).
It is embarrassing that, in light of the vast amount of taxes collected annually from our visitors, Hawaii fails to provide them with a memorable first and last impression. Travelers in this day and age have broad and affordable options to select from for their escapes to paradises.
As a frequent traveler myself, I am repulsed at the filth, tiles falling off the bathroom walls and lack of shopping and restaurant options.
One only need to travel to Houston, Denver or Chicago to learn how a successful, clean and welcoming airport enhances the travel experience and impacts a traveler’s choice of routes.
