Recent letters about our city were right on. I agree with Steven Nakamura that existing laws should be enforced before making new ones (“Enforce existing laws that some people ignore,” Star-Advertiser, June 6).
Nothing is done, so no wonder there are illegal vacation rentals and drivers running red lights.
John Waring said the city should take care of what we already have (“Focus on city services, not climate change,” Star-Advertiser, June 10). Forget about fancy playgrounds at Ala Moana and a ball field in Waimanalo. He said we don’t respect or maintain what we have. True.
Rosemarie Tucker pointed out the need for trees instead of paving over everything (“Paving over paradise raises temperatures,” Star-Advertiser, June 14).
Didn’t the mayor plant a palm at Honolulu Hale one or two years ago and talk about hundreds of trees to be added in Honolulu? Where are they?
Last was the letter from Max Miura about his losing battle on bumpy roads (“Car losing battle on bumpy road in Nuuanu,” Star-Advertiser, June 14).
I just returned from Oregon and was impressed by smooth roads, roadside landscaping and a nice airport.
As a senior citizen, I’d like to see one or two of these issues remedied in my lifetime.
