I find it disheartening that schools Superintendent Christina Kishimoto fell for the anti-pesticide campaigns hook, line and sinker (“Herbicides banned on Hawaii public school campuses, superintendent says,” Star-Advertiser, June 26).
Her ban came without any studies on what the alternatives are, the costs and potential impacts.
While many will claim that possible carcinogenicity is the issue, our school kids still get to eat known cancer-causing agents like hot dogs and other processed meats. Many go out in the sun with no sun protection, either. Maybe she should ban more toxic substances like bleach and the other disinfectants used on campus.
I guess our schools will be having 10-foot-tall tall weeds, more ants, more mosquitoes and more rats and slugs. My child is not protected.
