The havoc wreaked on Oahu by Tuesday’s thunderstorms included downed trees, flooding, power outages — and the rare occurrence of lightning hitting not one, not two, but three people: a 10-year-old boy and two workers at Honolulu’s airport. All were taken to the hospital in serious condition but have since been released. Here’s wishing them swift and full recoveries.
According to data partly supplied by the National Lightning Safety Council: From 2009 through 2018, Wyoming had the highest rate of lightning fatalities per 1 million residents; Hawaii was among 11 states with no deaths. Let’s hope it stays that way.
Putting ‘X’ on driver’s license
Hawaii has now joined 17 other jurisdictions in the country that allow the choice of “X” as well as the longstanding M/F gender options authorized for driver’s licenses.
It’s championed by the LGBT communities as being more accommodating to those who don’t see the conventional male or female categories as fitting.
According to House Bill 1165 that the governor signed, there’s no need for any documentation to make the “gender X” choice. So “X” could also mean: Why do you need to know?
